Introduction to Pattern Drafting & Garment Making Portfolio (Week 6,7,8)

WEEK 6

In week 6, Ms. Melina began the class with a brief introduction to the task and provided a step-by-step demonstration on sewing a shirt using calico fabric. We started by practicing the lock stitching technique, ensuring our stitches were precise and clean. These completed exercises were then neatly stored in our prepared A3 files folder for future reference. Following Ms. Melina's guidance, I proceeded to cut the fabric pieces needed for the shirt. Step by step, I carefully sewed the pieces together, ensuring each seam was accurate. This process reinforced my understanding of garment construction and the importance of attention to detail. By the end of this week, I had completed 70% of the shirt, feeling a sense of accomplishment in applying these techniques to a practical work.

WEEK 7

In week 7, I continued to finish the shirt with collar, make button holes with the machine in class and i hand stitched each buttons to the shirt. Next,I continued to creating a pencil skirt under Ms Melina guidance. This process of making skirt introduced me to new sewing techniques, including sewing a zipper and making a waist band. Under Ms. Melina's guidance and assistance, I learned how to attach a zipper, ensuring it was both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Ms. Melina demonstrated with clear, step-by-step instructions of how to attach the waist band to the skirt. Although my first attempt at making the pencil skirt had some shortcomings, I felt proud of my progress. Each step in constructing the skirt provided valuable lessons in garment making and Ms. Melina were always there in helping me understand and execute the techniques. Her guidance and encouragement made the learning process enjoyable and rewarding.

WEEK 8

This week was designated as Independent Learning Week, allowing us to focus on our assignments and personal projects. I took this opportunity to continue working on Assignment Task 2. I finalized the PowerPoint presentation slides, ensuring they were comprehensive and visually appealing. Additionally, I continued working on finishing the skirt I had started the last week. This independent study time allowed me to reflect on the techniques I had learned and apply them with greater precision. Completing the skirt provided a sense of achievement. Independent Learning Week was a valuable period for revisioning my knowledge and skills, and I appreciated the chance to work at my own pace, focusing on perfecting my project.
